"Doe" |
Born in Huntsville Alabama to Jim and Holly Carroll, Doe (as she is called by her friends) is a true child of the South. Even though her family moved to Maryland when she was two, she will always be a southern lady; her natural grace and charm are testament to that. Her maternal grandmother, Dotty, was a strong influence in her life. A Southern Lady through and through. Dotty was statuesque and poised and absolutely never let her feathers get ruffled. Doe maintains that same graceful bearing. She and her sisters maintained a typical sorority relationship, until her two older sisters, Cindi and Crystie moved to Vermont with their father some years after their parents divorced. Doe and her sister Kim remained with their mother near Annapolis, Maryland where they attended school. Cindi and Crystie were attending Mount Mansfield Union High School in Jericho, VT - the same high school where the young future Alan Ross was developing his craft. As children, Doe and her sister, Kim were both strong allies and bitter enemies (as all sisters are), but as they grew in years, they grew even closer as friends. Today all four sisters are a tightly knit group with an almost unnatural sixth sense about each other. They know when one of them is in need of a call, or when one is having a great day and they call each other often. When the four sisters were together, they loved to sing and Doe developed a real ear for harmony. She's cultivated the ability to pick out several harmonies from almost any song. She's often said, "I'd rather just sing harmony with someone." Reserved and very shy, Doe prefers to remain in the background, but her stunning beauty and elegance make her hard to hide. Doe studied business and marketing in college and went straight to work in retail management. Deceptively brilliant and with a talent for creative design and personnel relations, she managed to climb the corporate ladder at record setting pace and soon established herself as an exemplary leader in the Annapolis retail district. In early 1991, Doe moved to Vermont to live with her sister, Cindi. She helped care for Cindi's young son, Robby, who adored his Aunt Doe. Doe managed the household while Cindi was working and life took on a comfortable steadiness... until May 29, 1992. On Friday, May 29, 1992 Doe met her future husband, Alan Ross at a little nightclub in Essex Jct., VT called BW's Cafe and Pub. Their meeting was casual and a simple exchange of phone numbers led to their first date on June 5. Two months later, after an amazing courtship that cemented the two twin souls, on August 1, 1992, they were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony surrounded by family and friends in Colchester, VT. In April of 1993, Doe took her husband to Maryland to visit her Mother and sister, Kim. While there, they decided to take a drive to North Carolina to meet Doe's recently widowed Grandmother. The five and a half hour drive deposited them in Nags Head where they both fell in love with the area. Almost a year to the day later, in April, 1994, they packed up all their worldly belongings and moved to North Carolina to stay. Going was rough at first. Doe looked for work in retail management, but found nothing that either challenged her or could offer her the financial level she was used to in Annapolis. After several attempts, Doe decided to start her own business once they could raise the initial capital. She wasn't sure what to do, but she wanted out of retail and thought about doing something in the field of music since she and Alan shared an interest. In late 1995, Doe decided to start her own business,
